Welcome to my first of monthly choices!
One of my favourite songs of this month is ‘Bring It On Over’ by Billy Currington. The beat is dance worthy and for me I have found it is a song I can easily listen to on repeat. I tweeted my love for this song, and Billy Currington liked this tweet!
Another song I have been loving these past few weeks is ‘I Think I Fell In Love Today’ by Kelsea Ballerini. She released her album ‘Unapologetically’ last November which I would definitely recommend, and the deluxe edition was released on the 26th Oct 2018. This track is one of the new offerings from this album. The song was written by Ballerini and is obviously inspired by her relationship with Morgan Evans, a fellow country singer. Despite Ballerini’s other song ‘I Hate Love Songs’ it is the case that ‘I Think I Fell In Love Today’ is a sweet love song.
Morgan Evans, himself released a new album this month ‘Things That We Drink To’ and it is the title track that finds itself on my October Choices. This is also said to be Kelsea Ballerini’s favourite track on the record. I must admit on the first listen at 2:22 I believed the song had finished because there was a five second pause, and was slightly disappointed that the song had ended that way, however, then the chant of ‘things that we drink to’ came over my headphones and the song continued for another 30 seconds. An enjoyable listen.
Lauren Alaina’s latest release ‘Ladies In the ’90s’ is no doubt a song to dance to. It marks the direction in which her second album may head towards. She personally has said it is one of her favourite songs she has put out, and I agree!
5 Seconds of Summer’s cover of ‘Killer Queen’ for the film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ shows their flexibility to work with other people songs but to put their own unique spin on it. ‘1999’ by Charli XCX and Troye Sivan is primarily included due to 1999 being my own birth year and it is a good track to dance to.
A song I was surprised by was ‘Night Visions’ by AJ McLean, of the Backstreet Boys. Since the Backstreet Boys collaborated with Florida Georgia Line on ‘God, Your Mama and Me’ McLean has been interested in making country music and ‘Night Visions’ fits in well with the other country songs being released at the moment.
Clara Mae is a Swedish singer, who I discovered when one of her songs was on the playlist in the shop I worked in last Christmas. Her EP ‘Sorry For Writing All The Songs About You’ was released last month but I only came across it the other week. ‘Us’ is my favourite on the EP, with the line ‘I lost more than track of time’ having personal resonance.
Roan Ash’s ‘If I Ever Saw Heaven’ is a country contemporary song with a choir style backing vocals, and an organ backing track. Feeling as if you’re half in church and half at a concert! It is an uplifting track.
MKTO were best known for ‘Classic’ and I was never keen on their other releases but their most recent song ‘How Can I Forget’ is a song that makes it feel like summer again with the beat which is a good feeling in the cold winter.
